What is a bust rate?

A bust rate is the percentage of sessions that lose the entire starting bankroll before a set spin limit. It's a SlotsScience metric: instead of quoting only a slot's RTP, we simulate tens of thousands of realistic sessions and report how often the bankroll hit zero.

RTP is a lifetime average; a bust rate answers the question players actually have, how often does a session go to zero? We measure it by simulating large grids of sessions (typically 10,000 per stake-and-bankroll combination, capped at 2,000 spins). For example, on Wanted Dead or a Wild a $100 bankroll at $0.50 a spin had an 81.3% bust rate, four in five sessions emptied out before the cap. The same game at a $0.20 stake over a deeper bankroll busted far less often.

Bust rate makes a slot's real-world behaviour visible in a way RTP alone never does. Every study reports it.

FAQ

How is bust rate different from RTP?

RTP is the long-run return; bust rate is how often a real session loses everything. A 96% RTP slot can still bust the majority of sessions.

Does a lower bust rate mean I'll win?

No, it means sessions last longer on average. Slots remain negative-expectation.
